Lakers Gaming Leaps into NBA 2K League with New Logos
The Los Angeles Lakers are back on the prowl for championships, and not just in the real-life NBA. Next year, the purple and gold will jump into the world of eSports by joining the NBA 2K League for its second season under the moniker of Lakers Gaming.
In anticipation of its first virtual campaign, Lakers Gaming unveiled its official logos. Created in-house, the primary logo pays homage to the city of stars featuring the gold star assembled in its signature “LA” sigil. The secondary logo is reminiscent of the classic Lakers wordmark.

The team itself is also coming together. The squad, led by head coach/general manager Mathew Makovec, will feature Mooty (Mitchell Franklin), the No. 4 overall pick in the 2K League Expansion Draft this past April, at power forward; and KontruL (Christopher Cantrell), the No. 8 pick, at point guard. Lakers Gaming also acquired power forward Vert (Jordan Gates) from Warriors Gaming in exchange for the 10th overall pick in next year’s draft.
More selections are still to come across the 2K League, which has expanded from 17 teams to 21 for next season. The second stage of qualifying for the 2019 NBA 2K League Draft is taking place through Dec. 28.
Lakers Gaming, along with 19 other teams, will be looking to knock off Knicks Gaming, which won the inaugural 2K League title over Heat Check Gaming in August.
