NBA Social Recap, Week 11: Christmas for the Win
From rookie duties to daddy duties, the NBA brotherhood and fatherhood kicked into high gear for Christmas. Here are the top five social media posts from the players who suited up on the biggest day of the season so far, starting with No. 5.
5) New York Knicks Rookies Pay Their Dues
Christmas at Madison Square Garden is quite the honor and tradition. No matter how electrifying your play or captivating your hustle, the Knicks’ veterans will make sure the team’s rookies do their part off the court. Otherwise dapper and ready to hit the runway, Kevin Knox, Allonzo Trier and Mitchell Robinson remixed their stylish outfits as Santa’s favorite helpers. The Garden of Dreams Foundation has played a significant role in helping families enjoy the holiday season, and these neophytes were more than willing to assist.
4) Celtics’ Marcus Morris Puts His Kid on His Kicks
NBA players have different ways of honoring their loved ones, from tattoos and free throw routines, to jersey numbers and meaningful inscriptions. For the Boston Celtics’ overtime win against the Philadelphia 76ers, Marcus Morris—a Philly native who plays in Beantown—decided to adorn his Nike Kobe 1 Protro sneakers with the face of his baby boy, with the help of illustrator and designer M. Brian Bowens.
3) Damian Lillard Introduces Jr. to Christmas
Christmas Day was full of firsts in the Lillard household: Damian Lillard’s first holiday game since joining the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012, and Damian Jr.’s first time experiencing yuletide cheer with his mom and dad. The eight-month-old spent the day with his parents and family in Salt Lake City as his father prepared to square off against the Utah Jazz. Dame Jr. received a ton of toys, including a height tracker to chart his growth and a special pregame ritual at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
2) Lonzo Ball Poses with His Big Baller Family
Lonzo Ball showed plenty of love with his Christmas family portraits, featuring his daughter, Zoey, and her mother, Denise. The Los Angeles Lakers point guard even found room in the shoot for his Rottweiler, Deuce.
1) LeBron James’ Family is All for Onesies
What would the holidays be without a James Gang family portrait—in pajamas, no less? The uncanny resemblance among the family is absolutely telling. Bronny, Bryce and the usually peppy Zhuri all smile for the camera, as Savannah and LeBron complete the picture-perfect Christmas card.
