NBA Social Recap, Week 8: Kids, Collabs and Charity

The NBA is far and away the most active and popular major sports league on social media. From superstars to subs, basketball players use their platforms on Instagram, Twitter and beyond to share their on- and off-the-court lives with their fans.

Here’s a look at the top five social media posts from Week 8 of the season, starting with No. 5.

5) Mike Conley Joins Kanye West, Lil Pump in the Studio

Mike Conley may be the best NBA player to never be an All-Star, but at least the hip-hop world hasn’t snubbed him. In a video for SLAM, the Memphis Grizzlies point guard revealed that Kanye West called him in the middle of the night last year, praising his play and urging the 11-year veteran to join him during his recording sessions in Los Angeles.

Mike followed through, and was in the studio while Kanye recorded his wacky hit “I Love It” with Lil Pump.

“I felt pretty cool to have been in the room,” Mike says.

4) Damian Lillard Donates adidas Dame 4s for Cancer Research

Damian Lillard is one of the many NBA stars to participate in ESPN’s "Kicks to Beat Cancer" initiative. To support the charity drive, he signed a pair of his adidas Dame 4 signature sneakers and put them up for bidding on eBay alongside shoes from the likes of Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. All proceeds benefit the V Foundation, which helps to fund cancer research.

3) Dwyane Wade’s Son Extends His Legacy

With three NBA championships, 12 All-Star appearances and a Finals MVP trophy, Dwyane Wade has fully embraced the 2018-19 season as his last dance. But the Miami Heat superstar isn’t waiting for his own playing career to end before he becomes his son’s biggest cheerleader. A proud father, Dwyane was in the building to watch his son, Zaire, dunk in transition during American Heritage School’s first win of the prep campaign. The Wade legacy lives on.

2) LeBron James’ Younger Son Can Ball, Too

LeBron James always finds time to showcase his family’s talents. While Bronny James, LeBron’s oldest son, has made waves as a freshman at Crossroads School in Santa Monica, his youngest son, Bryce, exhibited his own “Showtime” magic with a full-court skip pass to his middle school teammate before getting the ball back for a pull-up three.

1) James Harden is “Sager Strong”

James Harden joined coaches and broadcasters in celebrating Craig Sager’s life and legacy during "Jimmy V Week," sporting his own funky outfit in honor of the late TNT sideline legend. The Houston Rockets’ reigning MVP donned floral patterns, courtesy of Versace’s SS’19 prints sets with Versace Chain Reaction sneaker wear to match.
