NBA Social Recap, Week 16: Legendary Connections and All-Star Celebrations

You’d have hardly known this was the biggest week of the NFL season with the way the NBA dominated the media landscape. From blockbuster trades to All-Star selections (and snubs), the basketball world was abuzz with big moments as the 2019 calendar flipped from January to February. Here’s a look at the top five moments on Twitter and Instagram from Week 16 of the season, starting with No. 5.

5) Paul George Swaps Jerseys with Dwyane Wade

The Miami Heat must be running out of Dwyane Wade jerseys, with all the postgame swaps of which the future Hall of Famer has been a part. The latest such exchange took place on February 1, when fellow All-Star (and CAA client) Paul George came calling for a uniform following the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 118-102 win in Miami. It’s a good thing Paul took his turn at this point, too, since D-Wade is bound to have his peers lined up around the block for his last All-Star dance in Charlotte.

4) Maxi Kleber’s Solution to Luka Doncic Confusion

If you’ve ever mistaken Maxi Kleber for Luka Doncic, you’re not alone. The two European stars-turned-Dallas Mavericks teammates have apparently become interchangeable to some fans on the street—to the point where Maxi now proudly sports a shirt to help distinguish between himself and “Wonder Boy.” With another phenom from across the pond (Kristaps Porzingis) now bound for Big D, Maxi may have to expand his wardrobe again soon.

3) Magic Shower Nikola Vucevic with All-Star Love

Speaking of talented European hoopers, Nikola Vucevic can now claim All-Star status for the continent. To celebrate the selection, Vooch’s Orlando Magic teammates doused him with water, much to his apparent delight. It may be far from the champagne showers of championship revelry, but at least the Montenegrin big man didn’t have to worry about any stinging or staining from the liquids involved.

There’s no such thing as a “cheap seat” to a Los Angeles Lakers game—certainly not since LeBron James came to town. But the Ohio-born superstar has done his part to give the fans their money’s worth—even while in street clothes. With his return from a groin injury still to come, LeBron delighted some enthusiastic fans in the upper deck at Staples Center with a simple salute during the Lakers’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 29.

1) Nets’ Caris LeVert Spends Downtime with Kids

Caris LeVert has been out since mid-November, when he suffered a gruesome dislocation of his right foot. But that doesn’t mean the Brooklyn Nets swingman has been sitting idly aside from his rehab. On January 30, Caris chaperoned a group of teenagers from his 22 Initiative through a visit at Nike NYC, where they got glimpses of career paths in sports that don’t require dribbling and shooting to the degree that his does.
